Faith in Action
Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this:
to visit orphans and widows in their trouble,
and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. James 1:27
When James wrote about the necessity of a lifestyle of integrity accompanying a profession of faith in Christ, he singled out the need to care for others. “Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food,” James wrote. “If one of you says to them, ‘Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?” (2:15–16). To fail in the most simple good work towards a brother or sister in Christ in their need demonstrates that one does not have a living faith, and we can only truly be saved by a living faith in the Lord Jesus.
Our actions demonstrate the genuineness of our faith. Significantly, those actions can also influence the faith-choices of others.
