Our Faithful God

Know that the Lord your God, He is God,
the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations
with those who love Him and keep His commandments.
Deuteronomy 7:9
Today's Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 7:6-9.
Israel is about to enter the Promised Land after 40 years of wandering in the wilderness while a rebellious generation die off. Before they are allowed to enter the land, Moses delivers a series of sermons to the people of God. The content of this book was given to the people of Israel during the last month of the life of Moses. These instruction were given to the generation of Israelites that were born during the wilderness wanderings, who had either been very young, or not yet born, when the Law was first given to Israel. Thus, the book is named “Deuteronomy,” which means “second law.” Deuteronomy is a restatement of the Law of God.
This generation needed to know that God was with them, just as He had promised to be with their fathers. They were about to face the fight of their lives, and they needed divine assurance that they could depend on God as they faced the people of Canaan, and committed to live their lives for the Lord.
In our Bible reading today, Israel is reminded that their God is a faithful God. They can rest in Him. They can trust His Word. Furthermore, they can believe His promises. They can depend on His power. He will see them through whatever may come their way.
We need this same kind of reminder today. We are living in days when the people of the Lord need to be sure they can trust the Lord. Deuteronomy 7, does that, it reminds us that our God is The Faithful God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, It is indeed wonderful to know that I can rest in Your everlasting arms, safe and secure, because You are faithful in all Your ways. In Jesus, I pray. Amen.
