Stumbling In Darkness

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world.

He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

John 8:12

Today's Bible Reading:  John 8:1-12.

Light was an important symbol in the Feast of Tabernacles. During the feast, many emblems and ceremonies remembered the pillar of fire that gave light to Israel during the Exodus from Egypt. Now, the Lord Jesus took this important symbol and simply applied it to Himself: I am the light of the world.

Today, the world is stumbling in darkness from one crisis to another. The crises are getting worse and worse, and are coming closer and closer to home. Inflation, population explosion, hunger, and climate change dominate vast areas of the world. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world;” meaning; You follow me and give your life to me and I will take you out of the darkness of this world, out of this confusion, out of this mess that you are in, and I will give you peace and joy. A light will burn in your heart and mind that you never had before. I will command the light to come on in your life, if you will put your trust in me.

Prayer

Your light shines in the darkest place and gives me hope, Lord Jesus. Amen.
