The Old Paths

In all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:6
Today's Bible Reading: Jeremiah 6:16 & Psalm 136:1-3.
Scripture offers clear guidance on which path leads to a life of meaning and fulfilment. During the ministry of Jeremiah, Israel was mired in deep spiritual darkness. The people had strayed so far from God that He was ready to hand them over to captivity—and He did. Yet even on the brink of judgment, the Lord longed for them to return.
Jeremiah 6:16 paints the picture of a traveller standing at a crossroads. He can choose any direction, but God urges him: “Ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it.” Instead of rushing forward blindly, he is called to stop and seek divine direction. Sadly, today many are too proud to pause and ask—and in doing so, they wander aimlessly through life.
The old path is not flashy or fashionable. It’s being traded in for what’s trendy—abandoning the Bible, the old biblical hymns, heartfelt worship, and sound preaching. Gospel meetings are giving way to entertainment. But God has not changed—“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).
As for me, I’m not looking for a new road. I’m asking for the old paths—the good way—and I plan to walk in them. What about you? The enemy may be swapping the road signs, but the Lord still knows the way. If we ask, He will surely lead.
Prayer: Father God, help me to worship You in spirit and truth. Restore in me a deep love for You and a reverence that honours Your holiness. Let my worship be sincere, joyful, and pleasing to You, Father, Son and Holy Spirt. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
