The Greatest Bible Study In History

A book of remembrance was written before Him

For those who fear the Lord and who meditate on His name.

Malachi 3:16

Today's Bible Reading: Luke 24:13-27

Two weary disciples, hearts broken by the events of Good Friday, were walking down a dusty road to Emmaus, burdened by confusion and dashed hopes. But what began as a walk of sorrow turned into the greatest Bible study in all history.

The risen Christ joined them, but verse 16 tells us, “Their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.” It was not grief that blinded them—it was divine restraint. God kept them from recognising the risen Lord right away because He had something deeper to show them first: Himself in the Scriptures.

Verse 27 is breathtaking: “And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” Imagine it—the Word made flesh, taking through the written Word, revealing how every promise, pattern, and prophecy pointed to Him.

Jesus did not avoid the subject of suffering. In v 26, He says, “Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” Suffering was not a tragic mistake; it was the plan all along—the necessary road to glory.

And only after the Scripture was opened, and after the breaking of bread, were their eyes opened, and they knew Him (v 31). What a powerful truth: God opens our eyes to see Christ through the unfolding of His Word.

Let us remember that the greatest Bible study in history continues—every time we open the Scriptures and see Jesus on every page. May our hearts, like theirs, burn within us.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, open my eyes to see You in Your Word. Let my heart burn with Your truth. Amen.
