Our Living Hope

"But now Christ is risen from the dead . . . "  

1 Corinthians 15:20

Today's Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:12-20.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is at the core of our Christian faith. It is the pivotal event that gives us hope, transforms our lives, and assures us of our eternal destiny. In 1 Corinthians 15, the apostle Paul addresses the importance of Christ's resurrection and its implications for our faith. 

Paul begins by addressing those who deny the resurrection of the dead. He points out that if there is no resurrection, then Christ Himself has not risen (v 13). Without the resurrection, our faith loses its foundation and becomes empty. It means that Christ's sacrifice on the cross was in vain, and we are left without a Saviour (v 14). The entire message of the Gospel hinges on the reality of Christ's resurrection. 

Furthermore, Paul highlights the consequences if Christ is not risen. Our faith would be futile, and we would still be in our sins (v 17). The resurrection affirms that Jesus conquered sin and death. Without the resurrection, we would remain trapped in our sinful nature, separated from God's grace and unable to experience His transformative power.

Paul emphasizes the significance of the resurrection by stating that those who have died in Christ would have perished if there was no hope beyond this life (v 18). Our hope lies not only in this present life but also in the promise of eternal life through Christ's resurrection. The resurrection assures us that death is not the end but a transition into the glorious presence of our Saviour.

The Christian's hope is not confined to the earthly realm. We have a living hope that transcends our current circumstances and points to the reality of Christ's resurrection. This hope motivates us to live out our faith passionately, knowing that our labour in the Lord is not in vain. The resurrection empowers us to face trials, persevere through challenges, and live with confidence, knowing that our future is secure in Christ.
