He Is Merciful

ree

Who is a pardoning God like You.

Micah 7:18

Today's Bible Reading: Genesis 4:1-15.

Many people want to hear what God says just out of curiosity. They want to analyse and dissect it in their own test tubes. To these people, God may remain the great cosmic silence “out there somewhere.” He communicates to those who are willing to hear and receive Him, and willing to obey Him.

The Lord Jesus said that we must become humble as little children, and God has most often revealed Himself to the meek and the humble—to a shepherd boy like David, to a rough desert man like John the Baptist, to shepherds watching their flocks, to a girl named Mary. How does God speak? How can a blind man see? How can a deaf man hear?

From the beginning, God spoke to man. Adam heard the voice of the Lord in the Garden of Eden. Adam had two sons, Cain and Abel, and God spoke to them. Cain spurned that which was revealed to him, but Abel was obedient to the Word of God. Abel’s response showed that a man tainted and handicapped by sin could respond to God’s overtures. Thus, in the beginning, God began by revelation to build a bridge between Himself and people.

Prayer: How merciful You are, almighty God. I seek to show this same mercy to others. In Jesus name. Amen.

Humility Is A Virtue

ree

Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and

became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Philippians 2:8

Today's Bible Reading: Philippians 2:1–11.

Humility was considered a weakness, not a virtue, in the ancient world, which prized honour instead. Boasting about one’s achievements was expected, and you sought to raise your status, never lower it. Humility meant inferiority, like a servant to a master. But all this changed, historians say, at Jesus’ crucifixion. There, the One who was “in very nature God” gave up His divine status to become “a servant” and “humbled Himself” to die for others (Philippians 2:6–8). Such a praiseworthy act forced humility to be redefined. By the end of the first century, even secular writers were calling humility a virtue because of what Christ had done.

Every time someone is praised for being humble today, the gospel is being subtly preached. For without the Lord Jesus, humility would not be seen as good. Christ relinquished His status for us, revealing through all history the humble nature of God.

Prayer: I praise You, Lord Jesus, Light of the World, for being the Humble One. And I desire to humble myself to You today as my only fitting response! Amen.

Satan Is No Joke

ree

Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench

all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

Ephesians 6:16

Today's Bible Reading: John 8:42-47.

Many jokes are made about the devil, but the devil is no joke. If a short time ago I had talked about Satan, many would have made light of him, but no longer. People today want to know about the devil, about witchcraft, about the occult. Many people do not know they are turning to Satan. They are being deluded because, according to Jesus Christ, Satan is the father of lies and the greatest liar of all time (John 8:44). He is called a deceiver. In order to accomplish his purpose, the devil blinds people to the truth, and to their need of Christ. Two forces are at work in our world-the forces of Christ and the forces of the devil-and you are asked to choose.

Prayer: I have chosen to serve You, my God and Creator. Give me Your strength to battle the deceptions of Satan. For I ask this in Jesus name. Amen.
