Hatred

ree

Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour,

and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.

 Ephesians 4:31

Today's Bible Reading: Ephesians 4:25-32.

Sin is sin, but it is true that hate knows no bounds. It is in motion at every level. “Look Out for Number One,” has become the motto of scores of people.

One of the reasons hatred abounds all over the world stems from jealousy. Satan’s hatred of God was due to jealousy. At no time in history was hatred on display more than during the time of the Lord Jesus on Earth. Herod hated Him because of fear that the Christ Child would someday become King. Herod caused the slaughter of infant children in and around the village of Bethlehem so that the prophecy would not come to pass.

We are living in a world that hates. We have even seen violence prompted by hatred within church buildings. Hatred is carried out against those who desire more than anything to preach the love of the Lord Jesus Christ and demonstrate compassion for those who suffer.

Hatred is a social cancer that gnaws at the vitals of people everywhere. It threatens the freedom of worshipping Jesus Christ as witnessed in every continent. Hatred is rampant, a sign of the depravity of the human race. The Bible teaches hatred is sin.

The Bible also teaches that God is a God of love (1 John 4:8). Love is a basic part of God’s nature. Whoever you are, whatever your circumstances—God loves you, and He is waiting for you to come to Him in repentance of sin. Rejection of Christ is hatred of Him. Say an eternal “Yes” to Christ and make Him the Lord of your life today.

Prayer: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, help me not to grieve You by my words, actions or thoughts. Amen.

No Fantasy

ree

Those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves,

Who is this who even forgives sins?”

Luke 7:49

Today's Bible Reading: Matthew 16:13-17.

One definition of a “superhero” is a “benevolent fictional character.” While Jesus Christ is certainly benevolent, He is not fictional. He is the One and only Son of God clothed in human flesh. His purpose was not to save people from a villain, but from sin.

We need to understand that the Lord Jesus is not a “fictional” character, but alive and active in the world today. He lived on Earth and performed miracles that transformed people’s lives, He did not come to entertain mankind. He is not a caped crusader—He is the crucified Christ. He is not make-believe—He is Master. He is not a legend—He is Lord. He is not created by fantasy—He is favoured by God. He is not an icon—He is the Intercessor. He is not a force— He is the Forgiver. He is not imaginary—He is infallible. He does not vanish into exile—He redeems to the end. He is not a virtual winner—He is the Victor. He does not resemble hope—He is the resurrection of hope. He is not a revolutionary—He is the Righteous Ruler. He is not a superhero who falters—He is the Saviour who rescues. He is not a knight in hiding—He is the coming King.

Prayer: It is, indeed, a wonderful thing, Father God, to know Your Son, the Lord Jesus. I thank You for Him, and for His saving work on Calvary. Amen.

The Importance of Corporative Worship

ree

He (Jesus) came to Nazareth,

where He had been brought up.

And as His custom was,

He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day,

and stood up to read.

Luke 4:16

Today's Bible Reading: Hebrews 10:19-25.

I will not argue with you about nature inspiring thoughts of God. David said, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament show His handiwork” (Psalm 19:1). But at the same time, I would give you no comfort about absenting oneself from the house of God. The Bible says, “Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for it” (Eph 5:25). If our Lord loved it enough to die for it, then we should respect it enough to support and attend it. I like what Theodore Roosevelt (former president of America) once said, “You may worship God anywhere, at any time, but the chances are that you will not do so unless you have first learned to worship Him somewhere in some particular place, at some particular time.” Make time to worship God with other believers.

Prayer: Down through the years, beloved Lord, Christians have met to worship You. Thank You that I am a part of this blessed family. In Jesus name. Amen.
