God's Creatures

ree

All things were made through Him,

and without Him nothing was made that was made.

 John 1:3

Today's Bible Reading: Job 12:7-10.

An elderly lady that I was visiting, asked me if God cares about animals? Yes, is the answer, of course He does! After all, God made the animals – every one of them (including dogs and cats and every other creature we enjoy as pets and companions). And after God had made the animals and everything else at the beginning of the world, the Bible says that “God saw everything that He had made, and indeed, it was very good” (Genesis 1:31).

Do not ever think that our Creature God does not want us to enjoy the animals too! The Lord Jesus loves you and wants you to enjoy all of God’s gifts to you. When I was a child, my Grandparents owned a farm, and all my life I have been around animals. I’m thankful for the happiness they have given me over the years; they have been like members of the family. Even today I have a dog and cat, and hens here on the old farm, and I’m grateful for their companionship. Thank God for your animal friends.

But I hope also, that you will not only thank God for your pets, but that you will thank Him also for every good gift He gives you – your parents, your friends, your home, and so forth. Most of all, thank God for Jesus Christ, and ask Him to come into your heart and be your friend forever. He is God’s greatest gift.

Prayer: Creator God, Thank You, for everything that You have created. Thank You, for animal companionship and the joy they give. In Jesus name. Amen.

Spiritually Minded

ree

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

 Colossians 3:2

Today's Bible Reading: Colossians 3:1-17.

The Bible teaches that the world is at war with the spiritually minded Christian. Worldliness is a mood, a tempo, an attitude of the soul that peers out horizontally upon life. Its head is never lifted upward in recognition of God. Its gaze is manward—never Godward. It is a materialistic, sensual view of life that centres its attention on the gratification of the lower appetites and desires, completely blind to the things of the spirit. In this kind of world, God is not just denied, He is forgotten.

In spite of the fact that many people belong to, and serve, Christ, the wretched bent toward sin is ever-present to drag us down. Thus, we find ourselves in daily conflict with the world around us, but we are not to yield a Centimetre —we are to be the light of Christ that shines in the darkness.

Instead of saturating ourselves with things of the world, we can saturate ourselves with God’s commands and wisdom. “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth … Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom” (Colossians 3:2,16), and then proclaim boldly that Christ will bring peace to each heart that seeks His salvation.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I come before You, requesting that You cleanse me of any impure thought. I pray for purity of mind, body, and soul. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Heart's Longing

ree

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10

Today's Bible Reading: Psalm 63.

You were created in the image and likeness of God. You were made for God’s fellowship, and your heart can never be satisfied without His communion. Just as iron is attracted to a magnet, the soul in its state of hunger is drawn to God. Though you, like thousands of others, may feel in the state of sin that the world is more alluring and more to your liking, some day—perhaps even now as you read these words—you will acknowledge that there is something deep down inside you which cannot be satisfied by the alloy of earth. Then with David, the Psalmist, who wrote psalm 63, and who had sampled the delicacies of sin and had found them unsatisfying, you will say, “Oh God, you are my God; early will I seek you: my soul thirsts for you, my flesh longs for you in a dry and thirsty land, where there is no water” (v 1). Is your heart satisfied today?

Prayer: How I long for You, God, yet so often my heart is drawn away from Your leading. Like David, I desire a clean heart. In Jesus name. Amen.
