The Peace of God
The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds.
Philippians 4:7
During the second week of Advent, the theme often centres around peace. A fitting Biblical thought, a prophecy concerning the coming of the Messiah, into the world, is provided in Isaiah 9:6, there the Bible says: . . . His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
This verse reflects on the anticipation of the birth of the Lord Jesus, who is foretold to bring not only salvation but also peace. It is a reminder of the profound and lasting peace that comes through the presence of Christ in our lives. The Messiah is the Prince of Peace: He is the One who makes peace, especially between God and man.
The Bible speaks of “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds” (Philippians 4:7, NKJV). Reality is found in the Lord Jesus Christ. Only Christ can meet the deepest needs of the human heart. He alone brings lasting peace.
