Jesus To The Rescue
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
Psalm 46:1
The Bible tells us that God tempts no one. Temptation always comes from the devil. God will test us and allow us to endure the temptation, but the devil does the tempting. An important lesson can be learned by experimenting with magnets. Placing two magnets at a distance apart and then moving just one toward the other. One magnet will draw the other closer until they adhere, making it difficult to pull them apart.
Temptation is something like that. The more we dwell on what we are being tempted by, the more likely it is that we will succumb. Giving into temptation brings about sin. In
1 Corinthians 10:13, the Bible says, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape.”
How do we overcome temptation? A Dutch friend of mine has a little ornamental verse which says: “When the devil comes knocking at your door, do not answer it. Send Jesus to the door.” And that is exactly the way to take care of temptation. Send Jesus to the door!
