Christ's Cross

". . . You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.."
Psalm 31:5
Reading: Psalm 31:1-5.
The verses before us today, in Psalm 31, carry a prophetic significance concerning Christ and the cross, as they resonate with themes that are often associated with the life and mission of Christ Jesus.
Trust in the Lord (v1). Just as David expressed his trust in the Lord in these verses, the Lord Jesus, in His final moments on the cross, demonstrated unwavering trust in God the Father, committing His spirit into God's hands (v 5). This trust exemplifies the ultimate reliance on God's plan and purpose.
We also see the theme of 'Redemption and Deliverance' in these verses; Deliverance and salvation from shame, danger, and enemies parallels Christ's mission to redeem humanity from sin and the consequences of separation from God. The cross was the means by which Jesus Christ achieved this redemption, delivering humanity from the bondage of sin.
"You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth" (v 5). The concept of redemption, aligns with the idea of Christ's sacrifice on the cross as the ultimate act of redemption. Through His death and resurrection, the Lord Jesus became the means through which humanity could find redemption and reconciliation with God.
“Into Your hand I commit my spirit” (5). The act of committing one's spirit into God's hands, is reminiscent of Christ's words on the cross when He said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit" (Luke 23:46). This demonstrates complete submission to the will of God and trust in Him even in the face of suffering and death for our sins.
What a wonderful Saviour we have!
Prayer: Knowing that You gave Your Son for me, fills my heart with wonder and gladness, that I have such a loving God, and Saviour. I thank You, in Christ's name. Amen.
