"For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.."
Matthew 18;11
Reading: Luke 15:4-24.
In Luke chapter 15, the religious leaders were astounded that someone like Jesus Christ would spend His time with “publicans and sinners” (Luke 15:1-2).They are stunned that He would receive such wicked and evil people. In response, Jesus tells them three stories, three parables. These three parables are designed to teach the same great truth: “Every soul is precious to God, even yours!”
As Jesus moves through these stories, He places greater and greater emphasis upon the value of the thing lost. In the illustration of The Lost Sheep (v 4-7), there was 1 sheep out of 100 missing, just 1%. In the illustration of The Lost Silver (v 8-10), there was 1 coin out of 10 missing, 10%. In the illustration of The Lost Son (v 11-24), there is 1 son out of 2 missing, or 50 %. In the first 2 stories, the objects missing were animal and material. In this third illustration, the object missing is a human. Each time, the object lost grows in value and importance.
In each of these 3 stories, the Lord is speaking about the salvation of lost souls and He is trying to impress upon the hears that God is concerned for the lost soul, for each person that does not have a relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.
I wonder, where are you today? Are you lost in the far country? Do you need to come home? If you do, there is no better time to do that than right now. Our Heavenly Father is waiting to receive you, clean you up, wrap you in His righteousness and begin the celebration. If you are not saved, by a simple act of faith; in prayer, you come!
Prayer: Great Creator God, It is a wonderful truth that in all creation, You should care about the individual, so-much-so, that You sent Your Son into the world to save each and every one of us. Thank You Lord. Amen.
