A Candidate For Revival

"f My people who are called by My name . . .
will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, . . .
[ I ] will forgive their sin and heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
Today's Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 7:1-14.
This is a well-known passage, often used when speaking of revival—and rightly so. In 2 Chronicles 7:14, the Lord speaks to King Solomon at the dedication of the temple. God warns that disobedience and rebellion will bring His chastening hand upon Israel. Yet alongside that warning, He gives a gracious promise.
This verse is not merely a warning—it is a divine invitation. God declares that if His people humble themselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from their wicked ways, then He will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land. This is God’s appointed way of revival. While this promise was given specifically to Israel, the principle extends to God’s people in every generation. The Lord still revives a humbled, praying, repentant people. He has not changed.
But we must be clear: this verse is addressed to believers. The Lord says, “If My people, who are called by My name…” This is not a promise given to the unconverted. The lost do not need revival—they need awakening. Scripture declares the natural man to be spiritually blind and dead in sin (Psalm 14:1–3; Ecclesiastes 7:20). What is needed is not renewal, but regeneration.
If you are not saved, your need is not revival—it is salvation. You must come to the Lord Jesus Christ, confess your sin, and call upon Him for mercy, lest you face the justice of God for sin and perish under His righteous judgement. But if you do know the Lord, then this passage speaks directly to you. Are you a candidate for revival?
Have you grown cold in your affections? Has sin been tolerated?Has prayer become neglected?
God has not withdrawn His promise. The question is not whether God is willing to revive—but whether His people are willing to meet His conditions.
Prayer: God of Mercy, revive me today I pray. In Jesus name. Amen.
