Three Kinds of Pleasure
The disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
Acts13:52
The Bible speaks of three kinds of pleasure. There is lustful pleasure, the lust of the flesh, and Scripture says it is sinful and wrong. In 1 Thessalonians 5:22 the Bible says: Flee from every form of evil.
Then there is legitimate pleasure, which is not wrong, but we are not to become so preoccupied with its activities that it takes the place of God. In Matthew 15:24, Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. "
Then there is a third kind of pleasure, lasting pleasure. Pleasure is a gift from God. The Bible says: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, . . . (James 1:17). When we trust God to supply all we need, we can enjoy His good gifts without guilt or reservation. The closer we get to God, the more clearly we will see that any other form of pleasure is a cheap substitute that comes weighted with joy-stealing consequences. Godly gratification provides a lasting joy that includes wisdom, maturity, and a clear conscience. Do you have that kind? It does not depend on circumstances or feelings. It is the pleasure that runs deep and comes from the Spirit of God.
