God's Providence

When she opened it, she saw the child,
and behold, the baby wept.
Exodus 2:6
Today's Bible Reading: Exodus 2:1-10.
At the start of Exodus 2, we read the story of Moses, who was born during a time when Pharaoh had ordered that all Hebrew baby boys be killed. The mother of Moses knew that she could not keep him hidden forever, so she made an ark of bulrushes and placed him in it, then put him in the river. God's providence led Pharaoh's daughter to find Moses and take him in as her own, allowing Moses to grow up in the palace (v 1-5).
The baby Moses opened his eyes to an unfriendly world. He was born in a powerful nation, but was of a foreign, oppressed race during a time when all babies such as himself were under a royal death sentence. Nevertheless, Moses had something special in his favour: he was the child of believing parents.
There are two things we can learn from this passage. The first, is the importance of trusting in God's providence. Despite the dangers surrounding the birth of Moses, his mother trusted in God's plan for her son. She took steps to protect him, but ultimately left his fate in God's hands. And God was faithful to provide for Moses and protect him, even using Pharaoh's daughter to do so.
The second lesson, that we can learn is the importance of obedience to God's commands. Moses' mother could have chosen to obey Pharaoh's command and kill her son, but instead she chose to obey God's command to preserve his life. And God rewarded her obedience by preserving the life of Moses and allowing him to grow up to become a great leader and prophet.
We also live in an unfriendly world, we may face difficult situations where we are unsure of what to do. But like the mother of Moses, we can trust in God's plan and obey his commands, even if it means going against what society or culture may tell us to do. Furthermore, we can trust that God will be faithful to provide for us and guide us through whatever challenges we may face.
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for Your providence. Help me trust and obey Your will. In Jesus, name. Amen.
