Out Of Egypt
When Israel was a child, I loved him,
And out of Egypt I called My son.
Hosea 11:1
The birth of the Messiah signifies God’s deliberate action to dwell among humanity, bringing His redemptive plan to fruition. Hosea 11:1, originally referring to Israel's Exodus, foreshadows the Messiah’s mission of deliverance. Just as Israel was called out of Egypt to become God’s covenant people, Jesus, as the ultimate "Son," recapitulates this journey to embody true obedience and fulfil the role of the faithful servant.
The imagery of being "called out of Egypt" connects Jesus with Israel’s history, emphasising that His birth and mission are not isolated events but the culmination of God's longstanding covenantal love. It illustrates that the Messiah's arrival is woven into the fabric of God’s redemption plan from the very beginning, fulfilling the promises of old.
In the context of the Messiah’s birth, Hosea 11:1 invites us to see Jesus as both the fulfilment of prophecy and the embodiment of God’s unwavering faithfulness to His people. Through Jesus, the “Son” called out of Egypt, the divine promise of deliverance is made universal, extending beyond Israel to all who would follow Him.
