Opened Eyes

Then their eyes were opened
Luke 24:31
Today's Bible Reading: Luke 24:13-34,
This Easter Day, in the verses before us, we find two disciples walking away from Jerusalem, burdened by confusion and crushed hopes after crucifixion of Jesus. But on this road of doubt, the risen Christ meets them, walks with them, and opens their eyes — both to Scripture and to Himself. This passage beautifully shows how Jesus meets us even when we least expect Him.
First: Jesus meets us in our confusion (Luke 24:15-16). The disciples were discouraged and disoriented, but Jesus came alongside them right where they were — not with instant answers, but with presence. Even in their confusion and sorrow, Jesus was already walking with them — before they even realised it.
Second: Scripture reveals the heart of Christ (Luke 24:27). Before they recognised Him physically, their hearts were stirred by the Word. Jesus showed them how all Scripture pointed to Him, proving that understanding often comes before seeing. Before their physical eyes were opened, Jesus opened the Scriptures to reveal the truth about who He is.
Third: God turns ordinary moments into holy encounters (Luke 24:3—31). It was in the simple act of breaking bread that their eyes were opened. Sometimes God is seen in the most familiar places, if we have hearts ready to recognise Him. A simple, familiar moment — the breaking of bread — became the place where their spiritual eyes were opened.
How about you, this Easter Day — have your eyes been opened to recognise the risen Christ walking with you?
Prayer: Risen Lord, open our eyes and our hearts today, that we may truly see You and walk in the joy of Your resurrection. In Your name. Amen.
