Careful With The Eyes
Keep yourself pure.
1 Timothy 5:22
Lust is when we intensely desire or crave something, especially in the sexual sense. Lust appeals to our Self-centredness and treats others as objects instead of people. Love, on the other hand, is an intentional devotion toward another no matter what the circumstances. Love puts another’s needs before yours to ensure his or her well-being.
Many years ago, a Dutch Reformed Church minister spoke to our young people's church group about the subject of love, he said, “You cannot help the first look, but the second is sin.” The Lord Jesus indicated that you can engage in immorality by a look. The Bible places the “lust of the eye” right along with other major sins. Listen: “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” Peter spoke of having “eyes full of adultery” (1 John 2:16). No wonder, Job said, “I have made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I think upon a woman?”(Job 31:1). Your eyes see only what your soul allows them to see.
If you feel tempted to lust after someone or something, remember this verse: God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape. . . (1 Corinthians 10:13).
