Reformation Day
The just shall live by faith.
Romans 1:17
On Reformation Day (today), we remember and celebrate the profound impact of the Protestant Reformation, initiated by Martin Luther's bold stance against the doctrinal errors of his time. Central to the reformation efforts was the rediscovery of the truth contained in Romans 1:16-17. Here are three truths Paul declares in these 2 verses.
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ," Paul declares. This statement echoes the courageous faith of the Reformers, who were willing to face persecution and even death for the sake of the Gospel. Luther, standing before the Diet of Worms, famously declared, "Here I stand, I can do no other," firmly rooted in the Gospel's truth and power.
"For it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes," reminds us that the Gospel is not merely good advice but the very power of God. It transforms lives, breaks the chains of sin, and brings eternal salvation. The Reformation was a powerful movement of the Spirit, reviving this understanding and spreading it throughout the world.
"For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, 'The just shall live by faith.'" This truth was and is the cornerstone of reformed theology: justification by faith alone. It is not our works or merits that make us righteous before God, but faith in Jesus Christ. This message brought hope and freedom to countless believers and remains the bedrock of our faith today.
The Reformation was not a one-time event but a call to ongoing renewal and reform within the church and our hearts. Let us continually seek to align our lives and our communities with the truths of Scripture, always striving for greater faithfulness to the Gospel.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the Gospel of Christ, which is Your power to salvation for everyone who believes. Help me to never be ashamed of this glorious message. Strengthen my faith, and let me live daily by Your righteousness revealed in the Gospel. As I remember the courage and conviction of the Reformers, may I also stand firm in Your truth, seeking to bring Your light to a world in need. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
