A Grateful Heart

Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving . . .

 Psalm 95:2

Today's Bible Reading: Psalm 95.

It is the custom of many Christians to bow their heads and give thanks for the food that has been placed before them, even when eating in public places. I have had many waiters and waitresses tell me that when we bowed our heads in prayer, it was the first time they had ever seen that happen in their restaurant.

Millions, even some Christians, never pause to give a word of thanks to God for the food provided. Few homes have a moment of thanksgiving at the beginning of the meal or at any other time of the day.

Having a grateful heart is recognition of a debt that cannot be paid. We express thanks, whether or not we are able to reimburse the giver. When our hearts are filled with thankfulness, and not just the formality of a polite “thank you,” it is the recognition of dependence, and a grateful heart. Is your heart filled with thankfulness for all that God has done for you?

Prayer: God of Mercy, I ask, Lord, that You would give me a thankful and grateful heart. In Jesus lovely name, I pray. Amen.
