The Doomsday Clock

"“knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake
out of sleep; for now our salvation
is nearer than when we first believed.”
Romans 13:11
Today's Bible Reading: 2 Peter 3:1–14.
The world often speaks of the Doomsday Clock—a symbol counting down to destruction, warning that humanity is edging closer to catastrophe. Whether through war, moral collapse, or human corruption, the message is clear: time is running out. But Scripture has been declaring this truth far longer and far more seriously. The Bible says;“The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt…” (Psalm 14:1), “There is none righteous, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10).
The real danger is not merely nuclear disaster or environmental collapse—it is sin. Humanity is not just approaching a man-made doomsday, but a divine day of judgement. Every second that passes brings us nearer to standing before a holy God, to face the justice of God for sin. Yet here is the glory of the Gospel: God has not left us to the ticking clock. While the world counts down to destruction, God points us to deliverance,“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).
The Lord Jesus Christ entered time, lived in perfect righteousness, and went to the cross to bear the wrath that sinners deserve. The judgement clock that was ticking against us fell upon Him instead. On the cross, He took the full weight of God’s righteous anger against sin, so that all who trust in Him would not perish under God's righteous judgement, but be saved.
This is God’s rescue. The world may fear the end of time, but the greater question is this: are you ready to meet God? Isaiah 55:6; “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.”
Do not ignore the warning. Do not silence the ticking. Instead, let it awaken you.
Turn from your sin. Trust in Christ alone. The clock is moving—but today, there is still mercy.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, awaken me, grant repentance, and help me trust Christ alone. In His name, I ask. Amen.
