Salvation, A Free Gift
Thanks be to God for His indescribable Gift!
2 Corinthians 9:15
Whilst walking one day in Perivale, West London, I came across Café Rendezvous, a church café. Café Rendezvous has nice lighting, comfortable couches, and the smell of coffee in the air. What it does not have are prices. Originally started as a business by a local Reformed church, the café was transformed a year after it started. The managers felt that God was calling them to do something radical; make everything on the menu free. Today you can order a coffee, cake, or sandwich without cost. There is not even a donation jar or box. It’s all a gift.
The Lord Jesus died to rescue us from our sins and reconcile us with God. He rose from the grave and is alive now. Because of this, every wrong thing we have ever done can be forgiven, and we can have new life today (Eph. 2:1–5). And one of the most amazing things about this is that it is all free. Indeed, we can not buy the new life Jesus offers. We can not even donate, or give something toward the cost (v 8–9). It’s all a gift.
My Lord God, thank You for the greatest gift the world has ever known in Your Son Jesus Christ. Thank You for salvation and the open gates of Heaven because of the Lord Jesus and His work on the cross for sinners. Amen.
