Hearts On Fire

Did not our heart burn within us

while He talked with us on the road,

and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”

Luke 24:32

Today's Bible Reading: Luke 24:28-35.

Today's text, comes from the account of two disciples who were walking to Emmaus on the day of resurrection. They were discussing the events that had taken place in Jerusalem when the Lord Jesus appeared to them, but they did not recognize Him. As they walked together, Jesus explained to them the prophecies about Himself in the Old Testament scriptures. When they arrived at Emmaus, Jesus revealed Himself to them and then vanished. It was at this point that the two disciples realized that their hearts had been burning within them while the Lord had been speaking to them on the road.

This is a powerful reminder of the transformative power of the Word of God. The disciples' hearts were set ablaze as Jesus opened up the Scriptures to them, revealing the truth about Himself. It is the same for us today - when we open up our hearts to God's Word and allow it to penetrate our souls, it has the power to change us from the inside out. The Bible is not just a collection of words on a page; it is the living and active Word of God that has the power to transform our lives.

When we read the Bible, we should approach it with an open heart, ready to receive the truth that God wants to reveal to us. Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we may not always immediately recognize the presence of Jesus in our lives, but when we open our hearts to His Word, He can reveal Himself to us in powerful ways. Let us ask God to help us approach His Word with open hearts, ready to receive the truth that can set us free and transform our lives.

Prayer: Father, Help me to approach Your Word with an open heart, ready to receive the truth that God wants to reveal to me. In Jesus name. Amen.
