Infulance

Jesus said to them, “You are the salt of the earth.”

Matthew 5:13

The people of Sodom had a false sense of security. They had obtained all the military power and economic strength; they also had sinful pleasure. They had become obsessed with fun and leisure; they were too busy for God. Furthermore, they were filled with idolatry, exchanging the truth for a lie, and man began to worship himself.

Today’s culture has become very much the same. The Bible says that "there is a way that seems right to a man, but the end is death" (Proverbs 14:12). People can be laughing on the outside while their hearts and souls are empty, sorrowful, worried, and concerned. Something is missing in their lives.

History shows that one of the directions an affluent nation takes before judgement comes is sexual perversion. Pornography is all over the internet. People can pull it up on their computers, and they do. Everything it seems, to use a modern expression, is “sexed up.”

The people of Sodom ran after the same perversion, they were all “sexed up.” But there was at least one man, Abraham’s nephew Lot, though living in this wicked environment was unhappy and miserable. Lot had sat in the tent of Abraham and had seen the wonderful works of God. He knew that the culture he was living in, was saturated in sin. Therefore, Lot was miserable.

Many have a Christian heritage but are living the same way. Something is missing. Christians must not let the world push them into its mould. We Christians are to influence the world, and not be influenced by it. Sadly today, all too often, the Church is influence by the world.

Are you influencing the world around you with your Christian faith, or is the world influencing you?

Bible Reading

Matthew 5:13-16.

Prayer

Father God, help me to influence for good all the things around me. In the wonderful name of Jesus I ask. Amen.
