Our Eternal Home

ree

Behold, I create new heavens . . .

Isaiah 65:17

Today's Bible Reading: Revelation 21:1-4.

What kind of place is heaven?

First, Heaven is home. The Bible takes the word “home” with all of its tender associations and with all of its sacred memories and tells us that heaven is home.

Second, Heaven is a home which is permanent. We have the promise of a home where Christ’s followers will remain forever.

Third, The Bible teaches that Heaven is a home which is beautiful beyond every imagination. Heaven could not help but be so, because God is a God of beauty.

Fourth, The Bible teaches that Heaven will be a home which is happy, because there will be nothing to make it sad. In Heaven, families and friends will be reunited. God’s house will be a happy home because Christ will be there. He will be the centre of Heaven. To Him all hearts will turn, and upon Him all eyes will rest.

Prayer: God of Heaven and Earth, thank You, that I have an eternal home with You, and that because of the Lord Jesus, and His work on Calvary for me. I pray in His name. Amen.

Cleansed Completely

ree

We are all like an unclean thing,

and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags . . .

Isaiah 65:17

Today's Bible Reading: Isaiah 64:1-8.

Have you ever left a dirty rag on the kitchen work top on a hot Summer's day, and when you have retuned home later, the rag is sticking?

The Bible says something similar about self-cleansing—our best efforts at dealing with sin on our own always fall short. Seeming to despair of God’s people, the Israelites, ever experiencing His salvation (Isaiah 64:5), the prophet Isaiah wrote, “we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses (meaning good-deeds) are like filthy rags” (v 6).

But Isaiah knew that there is always hope through God’s goodness. So he prayed, “You, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter” (v 8). He knew that God alone can cleanse what we cannot, until the deepest stains are “white as snow” (Isaiah 1:18).

We cannot scrub away the smudges, smears and stains of sin on our souls. Thankfully, we can receive salvation in the One whose sacrifice allows us to be cleansed completely (1 John 1:7) Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Father, help me to rest in Your forgiveness instead of trying to earn what You have already freely given. In Jesus name. Amen.

Who Is He ?

ree

Who can this be,

that even the wind and the sea obey Him!

Mark 4:41

Today's Bible Reading: Mark 4:35-41.

Who is Jesus Christ? Jesus (the Bible tells us) was the Son of God, who came down from Heaven to save us from our sins. Sin is not just a bad habit or a flaw in our character (although it is). Sin is rebellion against God, and as such it cuts us off from God. In Isaiah 59:2, the Bible says: Your iniquities have separated you from your God . . .

But Jesus Christ came to bridge that gap, and He did it by giving His life for us. He was without sin, but on the cross all our sins were placed on Him, and He took upon Himself our guilt and our shame. God loves us, each of us, that much!

What, then, does it mean to believe on or in the Lord Jesus? It means firstly to believe that He was who He said He was: the divine Son of God, sent from Heaven for our salvation. But the word “believe” has a much deeper meaning. It also means to trust, and when we truly believe on Christ, it means we trust Him, and Him alone for our salvation. Is that you today, are you trusting in Him alone for your salvation?

If no, I urge you to claim Him today and be saved. By a simple act of faith, in prayer, acknowledge that you are a sinner, seek His forgiveness, and ask Him to come into your life today and be your saviour.

If you are already a believer, then pray for those around you, and ask God to open ways for you to share Christ with others. Pray, too, that your life will be a witness to His love, and “that you may live a life worthy of the Lord … bearing fruit in every good work” (Colossians 1:10).

Prayer: My Father and God, thank You, for all those throughout my life time, who have pointed me to the Lord Jesus, as the One who is the Saviour of the world. In His name I thank You. Amen.
