What is God Like ?

ree

For I am the Lord, I do not change . . .

Malachi 3:6

Today's Bible Reading: Psalm 136:1-10.

I believe it is possible to know what God is like. The Bible declares that God is Spirit, that He is not limited to body; He is not limited to shape; He is not limited to force; He is not limited to boundaries or bonds; He is absolutely immeasurable. Thousands of people are trying to limit God to certain spheres, and relegate Him to certain categories that are the product of their own speculation. There is no limit to God. There is no limit to His wisdom. There is no limit to His power. There is no limit to His love. There is no limit to His mercy. Men change, fashions change, conditions and circumstances change, but God never changes.

Prayer: I limit You so many times, Lord. Forgive my finite mind and fill me with Your wisdom, power, and mercy, so that I can touch those You love this day. In Jesus name. Amen.

Good Citizens

ree

Blessed are the undefiled in the way,

who walk in the law of the Lord!

 Psalm 119:1

Today's Bible Reading: Philippians 2:12-18.

In the days of the Lord Jesus, people did not live in a democracy; the people of His day could not vote, and they had no choice about who would rule them. Decades before the Lord's birth, the Romans had invaded that part of the world, and they maintained their power by brute force.

But the Lord did teach us to be good citizens, and to work for a better world. The people of His day could not do much to change their world, but He said they should do whatever they could—and so should we. “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s,” Jesus told His listeners when they asked Him if they should pay their taxes (Mark 12:17). The Bible also tells us to pray for those who are involved in government, “that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” (1 Timothy 2:2).

The early Christians were often accused of undermining the state because they claimed a higher Lord other than Caesar. Yet they would point out that they supported the state by being good citizens and by praying for those in authority.

Remember, the world may not read the Bible, but they do read how you live your life. Is your life a witness for Christ ?

Prayer: Almighty God, I remember before Your throne of grace this day, all those in government, especially Christians, that they would seek Your guidance on all matters of state. In Jesus name. Amen.

Be Vigilant

ree

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks

about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

 1 Peter 5:8

Today's Bible Reading: 1 Peter 5:6-11.

In James 2:19, the Bible says: “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!” But why do the demons (who are Satan’s servants) tremble? The reason is that they know God is real, and that someday they will be judged and condemned by Him. They have no doubt that God exists; after all, they battle against Him every day. Remember: Satan’s one goal is to resist God, and to try to block His work at every turn. As the Bible says, “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against … the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).

Believing in the Lord Jesus means more than simply believing that He existed, or that He was a great teacher, or even that He died on the cross and rose again for our salvation. Believing in Jesus means trusting Him as our Lord and Saviour, and personally committing our lives to Him.

Yes, Satan and his followers believe Jesus exists; they even know He is the Son of God who came from Heaven to save us. But they do not trust Him, nor will they ever be committed to follow Him. What about you? If you have never turned to Christ in repentance and faith and committed your life to Him, do so today.

Prayer: Father God, keep me on the straight and narrow path, standing up and resisting Satan and temptation. In Christ's name. Amen.
