Feeling Empty ?

ree

 Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength . . .

     Isaiah 40:3

Today's Bible Reading: Isaiah 40:28-31.

As believers in the Lord Jesus, we can always look to God for help and encouragement when we feel overburdened, because “He neither faints nor is weary” (Isaiah 40:28). The prophet Isaiah tells us that our Father in heaven “gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength” (v. 29). Even though God's strength never fails, He knows that we will have days when we are physically and emotionally exhausted (v 30). But when we wait on the Lord and draw our strength from Him, rather than striving in our own power, He will renew us. He gives us fresh resolve to press on in faith, empowered by His enduring strength.

If you are feeling tired and empty today, look to the Lord and He will renew your strengthen.

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for helping me when the challenges of life seem unbearable. In Jesus name. Amen.

Waiting For An Answer

ree

 Everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds,

and to him who knocks it will be opened.

     Matthew 7:8

Today's Bible Reading: 1 John 5:14-15.

In the Bible, we find many examples of people getting answers to their prayers quickly (see Daniel 9:20-23) and those not getting answers for a long time (see Hannah’s story in 1 Samuel 1:10-20). Perhaps the most poignant example of a delayed answer, one that surely struck terror in the hearts of Mary and Martha, was when they asked their Friend, Jesus, to help their sick brother Lazarus (John 11:13). Jesus delayed, and their brother died. Yet four days later, Christ answered by resurrecting Lazarus (John 11:43-44).

Waiting for answers to our prayers can be difficult. But God can comfort and help as we approach His throne of Grace. In Hebrews 4:16, the Bible says: Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. As believers, we know that we have that wonderful assurance, that God always hears our prayers.

Prayer: Father God, When I come before You in prayer, help me to pray in accordance with Your will, and with confidence. In Christ's wonderful name, I pray. Amen.

Use Your Time Wisely

ree

 The days of our lives are seventy years;

And if by reason of strength they are eighty years,

Yet their boast is only labour and sorrow;

For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

     Psalm 90:10

Today's Bible Reading: James 4:13-17.

Nothing takes God by surprise. Everything is moving according to a plan, and God wants you in that plan. The devil also has a plan for the world. God has a plan and the devil has a plan, and you will have to decide which plan you are going to fit into. Scripture says that God allows us 70 years and some beyond. The first 15 are spent in childhood and early adolescence. Twenty years are spent in bed, and in the last five, physical limitations start to curtail our activities. That gives us about 30 years in which to live as adults. We take time out for eating, and for figuring our taxes, and other official paperwork, and we are down to perhaps 15 years. Now suppose we spend seven of those years listening to the radio or watching television. That cuts us down to seven or eight years. Our time is short! The time we can invest for God, in creative things, in reaching our fellow humans for Christ, is short!

Let's use our time wisely, in the service of our God and Saviour.

Prayer: Each hour of every day that is left of this earthly life, I would spend serving You, Lord God. Forgive the time spent so often in needless endeavour. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
