The Ultimate Sacrifice

ree

Behold! The Lamb of God

who takes away the sin of the world!

John 1:29

Today's Bible Reading:  John 1:29-34.

The verse before us, today, is significant because it points to Jesus Christ as the ultimate sacrifice for sin, fulfilling the Old Testament prophecies and foreshadowing His ultimate sacrifice on the cross. Here are three points to reflect on.

First: The significance of the "Lamb of God":

In the Old Testament, lambs were often used as sacrifices to atone for sin. John the Baptist's declaration of Jesus as the "Lamb of God" connects the Lord Jesus to this Old Testament sacrificial system, but with a key difference: Jesus is the ultimate, perfect sacrifice that takes away the sin of the world once and for all.

Second: The universality of salvation:

John 1:29 says that Jesus “takes away the sin of the world,” not just the sin of a particular group or nation. This highlights the universal nature of salvation that is available to all people, regardless of their background or ethnicity.

Third: Responding to the Lamb of God:

John the Baptist's declaration of the Lord as the "Lamb of God" is a call to respond to Jesus in faith and repentance.

Reflect on your own response to Jesus Christ and ask yourself if there are any areas of your life where you need to turn away from sin and turn toward Him. Spend time in prayer, asking God for help in following Jesus more closely.

Prayer: Father, Help me to live in the knowledge of Your great and wonderful love, with an eagerness to serve You. In the name of the Lamb, I pray. Amen.

Standing Firm

ree

Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.

1 Corinthians 16:13

Today's Bible Reading: 1 Peter 5:7-9.

Daniel and his companions were tempted to forsake their godly heritage, but they refused. They even faced a fiery furnace rather than compromise. God honoured their faith and mightily used them. Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and imprisoned. Yet through every trial, he remained faithful to God, refusing to sin even when tempted. In the end, God exalted him and used him to save many lives. Moses was surrounded by the luxury and godlessness of the Egyptian court, but cast in his lot with his own people. Lot lived in Sodom and saw the obscenities of that doomed city. God saved him out of it because he trusted in Him. Every one of our Lord’s apostles sealed their faith with their lives. Since then, history has been replete with the lives of men and women who have put God and His way of life above all else. Are you standing firm in the Lord today?

Prayer: Help me to stand by faith in You, Father God, In Jesus name. Amen.

The Journey

Do not fear

Numbers 21:35

Today's Bible Reading: Numbers 21:33–35.

In Numbers 21, a lesser-known moment unfolds: Israel faces King Og of Bashan in battle. At first glance, it's just another historical encounter. But there's a deeper truth—God tells Moses, "Do not fear him, for I have delivered him into your hands."

We too, journey through a wilderness—life’s struggles, setbacks, and battles. Whether it’s illness, financial strain, or fractured relationships, we face enemies that feel overwhelming.

But God’s message remains the same: Do not fear.

Just as He fought for Israel, He fights for us. Psalm 46:1 reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” We may not always see the outcome, but we can trust His presence and power.

Take heart—your battles are not yours alone. The Lord who delivered Israel is still delivering His people today.

Prayer: Father God, In the battles of my life, help me to trust in You, for You are refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. In Christ's name I pray. Amen.
